A seminar devoted to Jewish Mediterranean and Oriental culture organized by the Pompidou Center, examined for four days the roots and the links between Jewish and Arab culture and their mutual influence. The seminar, which concluded here Sunday night, was attended by French-speaking writers and scholars from Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey. The seminar abandoned part of its scholarly approach on the last day when several of the participants attacked Israel’s social system; claiming that Oriental Jews are considered “second class citizens.”
