A top Egyptian envoy is “more hopeful” about peace after meeting with Yasser Arafat. Osama Al-Baz, a top aide to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, met Jan. 1 with the Palestinian Authority president at Arafat’s Ramallah compound. Al-Baz said he urged Arafat not to wait for Israel to take positive steps.
