A U.N. Security Council resolution denouncing Israel for extrajudicial killings was frozen. Algeria, which introduced the resolution, decided not to ask for a vote Friday in anticipation of a U.S. veto and abstentions from Germany, Britain and Romania, said Arye Mekel, Israel’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations. But Israel expects the Palestinians to call a U.N. General Assembly session soon on a resolution backing Palestinian claims to the West Bank, Gaza Strip and eastern Jerusalem, Mekel said.
