A Washington-based Islamic cleric accused Israel of carrying out the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center. Speaking at a meeting organized by the New Black Panther Party, Imam Mohammed Asi of the Islamic Center of Washington said Israeli officials decided to launch the attack after the United States refused their request to put down the Palestinian intifada. “If we’re not going to be secure, neither are you,” was the Israelis’ thinking following the U.S. response, according to Asi.
