Albert H. Loeb, father of Richard A. Loeb, who with Nathan F. Leopold, Jr., is serving a life sentence in Joliet Prison for the kidnapping and murder of Robert Franks, died tonight in his Chicago home.
Mr. Loeb, Vice President of Sears Roebuck & Co., was suffering from heart trouble when his son confessed his part in the crime. After Richard A. Loeb had been sentenced to life imprisonment his father’s condition became worse. He was staying at his farm at Charlevoix, Mich., in hopes of regaining health. But he lost ground steadily. He returned to his Chicago home, near that of the senior Franks and Leopold two weeks ago.
Albert H. Loeb was one of Chicago’s most prominent Jewish citizens and was very active in Jewish communal affairs and charitable institutions. During the last drive of the Joint Distribution Committee he contributed $30,000 towards the War Relief Fund.
