The Italian press today carries a statement issued by Ante Pavelich, dictator of Croatia, in which Pavelich is quoted as saying that “of the 18,000 Jews who lived in Zagrab, only 4,000 remained, and they too will be sent to forced labor or concentration camps.” “The Jewish question,” Pavelich said, “will be liquidated in the shortest possible time. It has been a very serious question with us and has had very complex economic aspects.”
