The Philadelphia branch of the Alliance Israelite Universelle, which was founded in 1878, has become a part of the Allied Jewish Appeal, which is 70 years younger, it was announced here today.

Under terms of the merger, as signed by Sol Satinsky, past president, and Stanley I. Sheerr, secretary of the Allied Jewish Appeal, “all of the assets of any kind whatsoever” now held by or to be paid over in the future to the Philadelphia Branch of the Alliance “shall be transferred to and become the property of the Allied Jewish Appeal.”

According to the merger, the Allied Jewish Appeal agrees to segregate these assets and to use the income from the interest “to aid in the education and the amelioration of the condition of Jews in the Oriental countries and in Eastern Europe, these being the purposes for which the Philadelphia Branch of the Alliance Israelite Universelle was established as set forth in its charter.” Funds for the operations of the over-all Alliance Israelite Universelle which is now functioning in North Africa will continue to be provided by the AJA in Philadelphia.
