Allied Commissioners, German Leaders Greet Jews on Holiday

The American and French High Commissioners for Germany today issued Rosh Hashanah messages to the Jews in Germany. Similar greetings were extended by West German President Theodor Heuss, West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer and the German Trade Union Council.

American High Commissioner John J. McCloy expressed the hope that in the coming year the Jews would find happiness in their relationships with their fellow citizens. French Commissioner. Andre Francois Poncet declared that ”e persecution of the Jews in the past make it the duty of all people to do everything to make a repetition impossible and to contribute with all means at their disposal towards this” end so that the sufferings already caused are ”’erased and fully compensated.”
