President Truman told an American Arab delegation that he was very much interested in having peace in the Near East and that he saw no good reason why there should not be peace there as well as in the rest of the world. The delegation, headed by Faris S. Malouf, president of the National Association of Syrian and Lebanese Federations, called at the White House to tell the President about the “tragic consequences of the Palestine problem and the sad plight of the million Arab refugees.”
