President Truman, in a message to the American Jewish Committee, today emphasized the importance of championing human rights as a means of achieving “lasting peace with lasting justice.” The message was addressed to Jacob Blaustein, president of the A. J. C., on the occasion of the organization’s three-day anniversary meeting which opens here tomorrow.
“Every forward step that we take toward equal treatment and equal opportunity will strengthen the bonds of mutual trust and confidence among our own people, and will add to the moral strength of the nations that have a common understanding of the right to individual freedom,” the President emphasized.
More than 500 leading members of the American Jewish Committee from all parts of the country will attend the three-day national session, at which various problems concerning Jewish community life in this country and Jewish problems in Germany and in other countries will be discussed. The work which the organization has done during the year in aiding Israel will also be reviewed at the parley.
