Six major Jewish organizations issued a joint statement calling upon the police authorities to redouble their vigilance to prevent such acts as the bombing of the Kansas City synagogue and the daubing of swastikas to apprehend those who commit them. The organizations included the American Jewish Congress, Jewish Labor Committee, Jewish War Veterans of the United States, Union of American Hebrew Congregations. Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations and United Synagogue of America. The statement was issued through the National Community Relations Advisory Council.
Three youths, aged 17 to 21, were sentenced in New York this weekend to 90-day jail sentences, after being convicted of disorderly conduct for strutting through Union Square, giving the Nazi salute and shouting "Hell Hitler." Magistrate Vincent Rao, who sentenced them, said the youths "certainly knew that their actions tended to provoke a breach of the peace." A Bronx rabbi attending a rally in the Square had lodged the original complaint against them.
