A decision to raise a capital fund budget of $10, 000,000 during the next three years for the American Technion Society, which supports Israel’s Institute of Technology in Haifa, was adopted here last night at the closing session of a two-day conference of the Society.
This sum represents one-half of a total of $20, 000, 000, the remainder of which will be raised in Israel, western Europe, South Africa, and South America. The Technion, which will start a construction program on a new campus in Haifa early next year, will build additional laboratories and departments, including a new Aeronautical Engineering School, a library, a student assembly hall, and an enlarged Junior College.
Col. J. R. Elyachar, national president of the Society, announced that special quotas have been accepted by various regional groups within the organization, including a pledge of $500, 000 from the Midwest Region, which will solicit funds for a Hydraulics Laboratory at the Haifa institution; and $500, 000 from the Philadelphia Chapter, which will work toward the construction of a new physics building to be named in honor of Dr. Albert Einstein.
