An appeal that British Jews should not take the law into their own hands to counter terrorist action was made by Maurice Edelman, MP and chairman of the external affairs committee of the Anglo-Jewish Association. He told a meeting of the Association’s council that action against terrorists should be left to those responsible for maintaining law and order. “But we must urge that the system should be strengthened,” he said. Edelman also said that he did not believe that British Jews should in any sense feel that it was the responsibility of the Israel government to look after the interests of the Anglo-Jewish community.
