News Brief

An Arab attacker rammed a bulldozer into vehicles and pedestrians on a Jerusalem street, killing at least three people and injuring dozens.

The assailant, an Arab from eastern Jerusalem named Husam Duwayat, 30, commandeered a construction bulldozer on Jaffa Road, one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares, and rammed a bus and several other vehicles at around noon on Wednesday.

Police fatally shot the driver, and Israeli authorities described the incident as a terrorist attack. Among the injured are two in serious condition and a baby whose parents have not yet been located.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert called for the demolition of the home of the terrorist, identified as Husam Duwayat, 30. He also said the national insurance benefits of his family should be canceled.

President Bush called Olmert to express his condolences.
