An Austrian Jewish swimmer who refused to take part in Hitler’s 1936 Olympic Games died last month at 77. Ruth Lawrence was 14 when she broke the Austrian records for the 100-meter and 400-meter freestyle. She was one of three Jewish girls who were to have represented their country at the games.
