An Israeli Arab terrorist who died in a Jerusalem gunfight may have been responsible for an unsolved murder.
Galilee Liberator Brigades, an obscure Israeli Arab terrorist group that claimed Ahmed Khatib as its own after he snatched a security guard’s gun in Jerusalem’s Old City on August 11 and was killed in the ensuing shoot-out, issued another statement over the weekend.
The claim, which like the previous one was sent to the Palestinian news agency Ma’an, said that Khatib stabbed an Israeli pensioner, Michael Ronkin, to death outside his Upper Nazareth home on July 13.
Israeli police, having previously said the Ronkin killing could have had terrorist motives, played down the Galilee Liberator Brigades statement. A court-issued gag order on the case prevented more extensive police comment.
