An Israeli court found a former Mossad official guilty of fabricating reports about Syrian military plans. Yehuda Gil, 64, faces a maximum 15-year prison sentence for attempting to harm state security. After Gil was arrested in 1997, the Israeli daily Ha’aretz reported that the false information he provided may have helped bring Israel to the brink of war with Syria in September 1996.
