* An Israeli lawmaker came out against a planned visit to the Knesset by a group of gay and lesbian teenagers. Otniel Schneller of the ruling Kadima Party wrote a letter to the Knesset speaker this week after he heard the group planned to tour Parliament during Gay Pride Week in early August. His request, which was refused, was deplored by other lawmakers. “The Parliament must act as a model of tolerance. There are no legal or humane grounds on which to ban them,” fellow Kadima member Ronit Tirosh said.
