An Israeli soccer team will play two matches without fans after supporters jeered during a Rabin memorial.

The Israel Football Association found the Betar Jerusalem team guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct after hundreds of fans disrupted a moment of silence in memory of assassinated Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin before a match last week.

Several members of the Knesset condemned the punishment as too lenient. Team owner Arkady Gaydamak said the team will appeal. The Russian billionaire was quoted earlier in the week as saying that a soccer game is no place for a Rabin memorial.

The Betar team has traditionally been associated with the political right wing in Israel.
