Little has occurred in London during the present Anglo-Israel financial talks to substantiate the optimistic reports being published in the Israel press, informed quarters here indicated today.
So far, it was stated, only one formal meeting has taken place between the British and Israel delegations, and this was limited to the formal presentation of the position of each side. Subsequently, David Horowitz, leader of the Israel delegation, met informally with several top British Treasury officials. But thus far the date of the next formal meeting has not yet been set.
Every indication, it was stressed, points to the fact that the current discussions will be more difficult than the earlier ones. Firstly, Britain has refused to release sterling balances to Egypt and may have to take the same position in relation to Israel. In addition, the international situation as far as raw materials is concerned has tightened considerably under the impact of the Korean war.
