Robert Edward Edmondson, “investment economist” who peddles anti-Semitism at a penny a pamphlet from his New York City office, sent every bank president in the country a circular warning against electing Rudolph S. Hecht of New Orleans, “a foreign-born notorious ‘international Jew,’ ” president of the American Bankers’ Association.
The Association, which concluded its sixtieth annual convention here today, following an address by President Roosevelt, failed to heed Edmondson’s admonition, however. Hecht, head of the Hibernia Bank of New Orleans, who previously had been vice-president of the bankers’ group, was appointed its president at the convention here. Born in Ansbach, Germany, in 1885 of Jewish parentage, he came to this country in 1903.
