Anti-Semitic disturbances which began on Wednesday with an attack upon a Jewish engineer on Bucharest’s principal thoroughfare, by a group of Iron Guardists, led by Deputy Robu, are spreading to other parts of Roumania today.
Anti-Jewish disturbances were renewed last night in Bucharest but no Jews were injured. Excesses occurred in Jassy, causing injuries to three Jews.
The Jassy excesses occurred at a joint meeting of Jewish and non-Jewish students. Non-students of Akerman invited Jewish students to participate in a meeting in Jassy, after the municipality of Akerman had refused to grant a subvention to the students unless all students were united in one group and benefited equally.
Iron Guardists and Guzists, learning of the scheduled meeting, arrived in a group and proceeded to attack the hall where the meeting was taking place.
The student leaders, Mociulsky and Tashka, led the attack. The two were arrested, but immediately released after their names had been taken by the police.
As a result of the attack, special police patrols are now stationed in Jassy.
The three Jews injured are S. Weltmann, George Wahrman, and a student, Novikow.
