State Senator Jack Tenney, who based his bid for renomination for that post on a campaign against “organized Jewry” was defeated yesterday in the primary voting. Sen. Tenney, who ran as Vice Presidential candidate of the Gerald L. K. Smith Christian Nationalist Party in 1952, charged that the “Jewish leadership” and the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation League opposed his renomination.
Sen. Tenney cross-filed under California law as a candidate in both the Republican and Democratatic primaries but he was defeated in both; in the Republican primary he lost to Mrs. Mildred Younger, in the Democratic primary to Richard Richards.
During his tenure in office, Sen. Tenney has written and mailed to Congressmen and United States Senators a pamphlet attacking Zionism. One-time head of California’s Legislative Committee on Un-American Activities, Sen. Tenney has attempted to link “Jewish opposition” to him to his attacks on Communists and others.
