J.H. Hofmeyr, Minister of Education and Social Welfare, told the South African Jewish Board of Education today that anti-Semitism was “utterly vile, loathsome and inimical to the general interests of this land in which we live.”
“Should anti-Semitism ever become an integral part of South Africa’s policy, I feel that I, as a real South African, together with many others, would hand our heads in shame,” he asserted. He paid tribute to Jewish contributions to civilization.
