A second attack on an Israeli village within 36 hours after the signing of the latest pact between Israel and Jordan to control infiltration was reported here today by an Israeli military spokesman.
In view of the apparent intensification of attacks from Jordan territory since the reaching of an agreement for meetings of local commanders to ease the border tension, the Israeli spokesman questioned Jordan’s ability to keep its part of the pact and pointed out that Jordan’s sincerity was also placed in question by this and other recent incidents.
Among the recent attacks by marauding Arab gangs from Jordan he listed the killing of one man and the wounding of three other persons in a Jerusalem suburb Saturday, the blasting of two homes and the killing of a man in a town near Lydda yesterday, an attempt to sabotage the Haifa-Tel Aviv railroad and yesterday’s raid on a farm near no man’s land in the Latrun area, in which a woman was injured and her home blasted.
The Israeli-Jordan Mixed Armistice Commission today ruled that Jordan was responsible in the attack on the village near Lydda Monday night. Under the chairmanship of Col. Bennett de Ridder of the UN staff, the armistice unit called on Jordan to take immediate, effective action to halt the violations of the armistice commission.
Meanwhile, on Lake Kinereth an Israeli police boat was fired on by Syrian troops on the eastern shore of the lake. No casualties resulted but a complaint was filed with the Israel-Syrian Mixed Armistice Commission.
