Ariel Sharon accused some of Israel’s critics of being motivated by anti-Semitism. “The legitimate self-defense measures Israel takes in its war against Palestinian terror — measures any sovereign state would be obliged to take in order to safeguard its residents — are presented by various anti-Semites as Nazi-style acts of aggression,” the Israeli prime minister said Wednesday in a Knesset address ahead of international commemorations Thursday of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.
