Ariel Sharon plans to ask the United States to avoid contact with Yasser Arafat. Such a move would mark the first public proposal from Israel that President Bush not deal with the Palestinian Authority leader. “I plan to tell President Bush next week, ‘I advise you to ignore Arafat. Boycott him. Don’t have any contact with him and don’t send him delegations,’ ” the Israeli prime minister said in an interview last week in the Israeli daily Yediot Achronot.
