Ariel Sharon voiced reservations about a U.S. road map for a peace settlement to a U.S. envoy. The Israeli prime minister told William Burns, assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern Affairs, that the roadmap does not have a strong enough security element and that it does not place enough emphasis on ending terrorism and dismantling terrorist organizations.
