Army Secretary Robert T. Stevens commended the Jewish War Veterans today for its “impressive history of devotion to the highest ideals of liberty, equality and justice” and for being “in the front rank of those who vigorously oppose whatever and whoever would impair our heritage.” Mr. Stevens made these remarks in an address to the JWV 59th national convention here.
The veterans, in a resolution, opposed the United States Government’s granting of arms to the Arab states. They also called for the integration of all races in the public schools of the U.S. as soon as possible. Joseph F. Barr of Washington was unanimously elected national commander of the organization, succeeding Harry T. Madison.
