Propaganda Minister Goebbels’ strict censorship of the German press has resulted in a circulation boom for foreign Yiddish newspapers among German “Aryans.”
Germany’s pure “Aryans” are turning to the Yiddish press to learn what is happening in their native land, particularly the Warsaw Yiddish papers. With most of the foreign press banned from German distribution, a few Yiddish newspapers, particularly the Warsaw Haint, are enjoying a wide sale in the Reich.
Berlin newsstands are being besieged by “Aryans” snatching up the Yiddish papers. Once they get the papers, they run to find a Jewish acquaintance to read and translate the contents for them.
Curiously, most of the lesser German officials, considering the Hebrew characters as some outlandish alphabet—Chinese or something similar—have not interfered with the sale of the papers.
