Elections to the Jewish communal boards in the eastern provinces of the Polish Republic, although a concession long asked for by the Jewish population, is again to be postponed.
Requests for postponement of the elections are being received by the Polish Ministry of Education, which supervises the elections, from numerous Jewish societies in these provinces, declaring that the terrible economic situation makes it impossible to hold elections at this time.
The new communal boards would have the right of imposing taxes on the Jewish population for the maintenance of their institutions.
