The prosecution asked a Stuttgart court today to impose a sentence of seven years at hard labor on Albert Widmann, 54, a former officer in Hitler’s Elite Guard and chief chemist in the Nazi regime’s criminal police bureau.

Widmann has been on trial on charges of complicity in the slaying of 7,000 mental defectives in Minsk during the Nazi occupation there. Widmann claimed that the killing of the mentally ill was “legally sanctioned” at that time.
