The talk about total emigration of German Jewry does not correspond with the realities of the situation, Dr. Bruno Woyda, leading member of the Berlin Jewish Community Board, declares in an article appearing in the current issue of the Gemeindeblatt, the official organ of the Berlin Jewish community.
“It is necessary to emphasize that no one in the Jewish ranks can know how the Jewish question in Germany is going to be regulated,” Dr. Woyda says. “It will not be decided by the Jews—neither by the German Jews nor the Zionists—but solely by the leaders of the German people.”
URGES SILENT SUBMISSION
Dr. Woyda therefore urges the “avoidance of misinterpreting the present Jewish situation in Germany.” He advises Jews silently to bear the burden imposed on each individual as well as on the Jewish community as a whole.
Criticizing the project advanced by other Jewish leaders, to take all the Jews out of Germany within twenty-five years, Dr. Woyda states:
“It is an endlessly responsible task to be a leader of German Jewry at the present time. Those who have assumed this task have a right to claim at least the confidence and respect of the Jewish masses. Those Jews who have at the present time nothing better to do than undermine this confidence and put themselves forward as real leaders, should be regarded with suspicion.”
“Phrases like ‘liquidation’ and ‘total emigration of German Jewry’ are pure generalizations,” Dr. Woyda continues. “A solution to the German Jewish question requires four essential conditions: It must be true; it must be just; it must be worthy and it must be possible. It must be true, which means that it must not distort the facts. It must see that German Jews as they are and not as certain party combinations want them to be.”
