Attempts to erode separation of church and state topped the Anti-Defamation League’s top 10 list of issues affecting Jews in 1998. The Middle East peace process, hate crimes, Holocaust restitution and anti-Semitism in Russia also made the list. Positive signs in the past year according to the ADL included the United States’ crackdown on terrorism and the United Nations General Assembly’s acknowledgment of anti-Semitism as a form of racism.
