Australia agreed to allow some members of the South Lebanon Army to immigrate and join members of their extended families. The decision came despite protests from the PLO representative in Australia and members of the local Muslim community. Many members of the SLA, a Christian militia that was allied with Israel, fled Lebanon last May when Israeli troops withdrew from the region.
