Immigration Minister Harold Holt told the Australian House of Representatives that United States military government in Germany, which was queried by the Australian authorities, stated that Walter Gieseking, the German pianist, had never been a member of the Nazi Party or active in Nazi-sponsored organizations.

Replying to criticism of the admission of the pianist on a concert tour of Australia, the Minister insisted that a full inquiry had been made on Gieseking before he was admitted. The Jewish communities of several Australian cities recently called for a boycott of Gieseking’s concerts in this country because of his pro-Nazi record.
