Australian Prime Minister Asks U.N. to Sponsor Middle East Talks

Australian Prime Minister Robert G. Menzies called today for United Nations sponsorship of urgent high level discussions aimed at ending the tension in the Middle East.

Speaking at a conference of the Liberal Party’s Federal Council, the Prime Minister insisted that at the head of the area’s needs was a final, guaranteed settlement of the Arab-Israel borders. Next in priority, Mr. Menzies listed: settlement of the Arab refugee problem, provision of economic aid without strings to the nations of the region, and encouragement of peaceful trade.
