Austria’s Parliament today enacted another of its series of piecemeal bills dealing with compensation to former Austrian nationals who suffered from Nazi persecutions. Parliament voted to pay approximately $1,500,000 over a period of nearly four years to match West German contributions of about $24,530,000 toward compensating persons whose professional careers or studies were interrupted by the Nazi regime in this country. The persons involved–an undetermined number of whom are Jews–must be former Austrian nationals;
The Austrian Parliament has enacted a number of bills to match the Bonn Government’s total contributions of $80,000,000, which West Germany agreed last spring to pay as help to various categories of Austrian nationals who deserve restitution due to Nazi persecutions in this country. Austria’s final share of the aggregate amount, to match Germany’s $80,000,000, has not yet been fixed in final form.
