Menahem Beigin, leader of the Herut Party, today announced that he intends to leave soon for Europe and the United States “to alert public opinion there against the Israeli-German compensation talks which are now taking place at The Hague.
Mr. Beigin told a press conference that he is certain that the talks will fail. He said that all German goods that are brought to Israel will be destroyed by those who oppose any contact with Germany. At the same time, he warned that if the pro-Government Mapai Party takes to itself the right to create “a private army” in Israel to check anti-German demonstrations, other parties “will establish private armies as well.”
