Belgian Premier Theo Lefevre was asked this weekend to have his Government intervene with the Soviet authorities and bring the plight of Russian Jewry to the attention of the appropriate international bodies.
The request was voiced by a delegation of Belgian Jewish leaders who participated last week in a conference on the situation of the Jews in the Soviet Union. The delegation was led by Max Gottschalk, president of the conference, and included Paul Philippson, president of the Central Jewish Consistory, as well as Chief Rabbi Robert Dreyfuss. The text of the conference resolution urging Belgian intervention on behalf of Soviet Jews was presented to Premier Lefevre, who promised that he would forward it to his Government at a meeting of the Council of Ministers.
