“Within ten years Palestine will be one of the most thriving sections of the world.”
This was the opinion expressed by Bishop John J. Dunn, who returned Thursday on the Homeric from a trip abroad during which he visited Palestine.
Bishop Dunn spoke with enthusiasm of the improvements brought about there by the Zionists.
“It is impossible to say enough for the work done there and in praise of Nathan Straus, whom I saw while I was there,” he said.
The Montefiore Hospital for Chronic Diseases, the largest private hospital in New York City, will hold its forty-second annual meeting at the institution, Gun Hill Road and 210th Street, Sunday morning.
Mrs. Sidney C. Borg, president of the Ladies’ Auxiliary Society of the hospital, will deliver an address on “The Dangers of Perfunctory Social Work”, and other speakers will include William Goldman, vice-president of the board, who will present the annual report, and Homer Folks, secretary of the State Charities Aid Association.
The hospital, which has a capacity of 799 beds at its city buildings and at Bedford Hills, for many years has given more “free days” of care than any other private hospital in New York City, it was stated. In 1926 it gave 162,395 free days of care and cared for 1,224 patients free of charge at a cost of $541,317. As the patients are all chronic cases, the average stay is over four months. The Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies last year contributed $324,613 toward the support of the institution. Sol G. Rosenbaum is the president; Dr. Ernest P. Boas is the medical director and M. D. Goodman is the superintendent.
