The British Government today demanded that the proposed International Refugee Organization, or its interim committee, conclude agreements with countries accepting displaced persons for the purpose of protecting the legitimate rights and interests of the refugees.

The demand was made at a meeting of the United Nations Social and Economic Council at which the problem of displaced persons was discussed. The meeting approved a proposal by John Winant, U.S. representative, suggesting that the question of refugees be dealt with by a committee composed of all the members of the Council.
