Jewish immigration accounted for an increase of sixteen and one-half percent in Canada’s population since the end of the Second World War, Immigration Minister Harris, reported here addressing the 30th annual meeting of the Jewish Immigrant Aid Society. During his term alone, he said, 35,000 Jews, many from European displaced persons camps, had been admitted to Canada.
During the first nine months of this year Canada admitted 3,894 Jewish immigrants as compared with 4,756 in the corresponding period of 1951.
