The expansion of the CARE service to Israel was announced here today by Richard W. Reuter, executive director of the organization. He said that the cooperative non-profit American aid agency has inaugurated a “self-help” program which will put the tools of their trade into the hands of apprentices and other needy craftsmen in Israel.

As a first step in the “self-help” program for Israel, 130 tool kits for carpenters and joiners, mechanics, electricians and other trades have been distributed by the CARE in Israel among youth workshops and various manual training institutions, Mr. Reuter said. He reported that since 1949, his organization has brought more than $5,250,000 worth of American aid in the form of food and textile packages, books and scientific equipment to Israeli families and educational institutions.
