An appeal for peaceful and friendly cooperation between the Catholic and Jewish population emanated from a Catholic religious conference, the first of its kind held in recent years in the region of Podlasie. The conference was held in the city of Siedlce. The proceedings lasted three days, attracting about 70,000 pilgrims from all parts of Poland.
Nothing occurred to mar order. Jews as well as Christians decorated their houses to welcome the pilgrims. Many Jewish homes were placed at the disposal of the arrangement committee to house the visitors. The buildings of the Orphans’ Aid Society and of the Jewish Shelter Society were thrown open to accommodate the pilgrims.
Father Wildo, high in the council of the conference, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Jewish community of the city for its cordial and hospitable reception to the delegates.
