The United Jewish Refugee and War Relief Agencies has been authorized to commence buying clothing and other supplies, if possible from surplus war stooks, for transportation to the Pacific coast from where they will be shipped to Soviet Russia.
Negotiations are still being carried on to assure that the relief supplies will be distributed among the needy Jews in the already liberated parts of Poland, in compliance with the appeal received recently from Dr. Emil Sommerstein. During 1944 the U.J.R. has transmitted for overseas relief over $335,000. Of this among $50,000 was sent to Iran for food packages to Polish Jewish refugees in Soviet Russia.
