The Chair of Hebrew Culture at New York University will be endowed in perpetuity through a fund of $250,000, Maximilian Moss, chairman of the endowment fund for the chair and president of the New York City Board of Education, announced here. He added that it is hoped to raise the sum by June, 1951.
The University introduced the study of Hebrew in 1934 with two non-credit courses in its division of general education. Four years later Hebrew was introduced as an accredited course and in 1944 the Chair of Modern Hebrew Culture and Education was established.
