The Chevra Kadisha, largest Jewish fraternal organization in this country, has decided to change its name to the Ashkenazi Community, it was announced here today by the organization. The group, which has a membership of 35,000 families–approximately 150,000 persons–has assumed the full functions of a community rather than those of a burial or fraternal society, its executive committee stated, explaining its action.
Meanwhile, Dr. Moises Slinin, president, revealed that one of the major projects recently undertaken by his group is the establishment of a Cultural House to’ be erected in a “university city” planned for the outskirts of Tel Aviv. The first ten percent installment on the total cost of the project will be sent shortly. The cost of the House is estimated at about 200,000 pesos (approximately $50,000).
