Chief Rabbi Joseph Hertz today issued a formal statement supporting those rabbis in Palestine, England and America who have criticized the Jewish Agency for Palestine because it allegedly attempted to deny religious education to the majority of the orphaned Polish-Jewish children who recently arrived in Palestine from Teheran.

Rabbi Hertz stated that “the Jews of the free nations are glad that the 716 Teheran children have been admitted to Palestine, but are amazed that the majority of them have been placed in non-religious settlements.” He added that “it was gratifying to learn that the Agency has expressed its readiness to hold further discussions on the subject” and voiced the hope that “past errors will be rectified and such occurrences prevented in the future.”
