The Assembly of the Church of England unanimously adopted a resolution today urging Christians everywhere to express fellowship with those suffering in Germany and Austria by material gifts, as well as by sympathy and prayer. Expressing sympathy with the distress of Jews and other “non-Aryans” in the Reich, the Assembly asked the British Government to do everything possible to assist their emigration to other countries.
The resolution was introduced by the Bishop of Chichester and seconded by Lord Wolmer, who declared: “I am one who is most anxious for a better understanding between our country and our great neighbor, Germany, but we cannot be silent on this issue. It is right that Germans should realize that this matter is one of the greatest bars to better understanding, and not only with Anglo-Saxon race, but with the Christian opinion the world over. We cannot be Christians and be neutral on this issue.”
